[Note: I have put James in the House & Electronic category because of the music samples he sent in. But James has also done a lot of work as a guitarist in the Jazz / Blues space, so I have included a Jazz track called “Ready” here. ]
Joined Basil ‘Manenberg’ Coetzee’s new group Sabenza in 1985 and started touring, recording (3 albums in all) and performing with them all over SA (Kippies, Jamesons, Rainbow Jazz Club, Grahamstown Festival to name a few) and internationally (London and all over England and Scotland, Amsterdam, Rome and Geneva) With Basils untimely passing in 1998 he concentrated more on teaching both privately and at the Jazz Workshop School of Music in Cape Town as well as playing in many smaller jazz and blues outfits, subsequently forming Acid Blues with drummer Richard Pickett and bassist Maurice Paliaga, as well as an original music trio with drummer Carlo Fabe and bassist Peter Ndlala. He has released albums with Acid Blues (Live at Carnival Court) and a solo album (Nowhere2hide – The James Kibby Project) as well as playing guitar on numerous sessions for other artists. His most recent recorded output is with new 6 piece blues band High End Blues (Live at Milestone). High End Blues features Beshara Ornellas on Vocals and Mark Buchanan on guitar as well. They are one of the first bands to have started performing again since lockdown (at Vixi Social House in Strand St Cape Town) James currently streams his solo looping project four times a week on the Sessions Live platform and has performed this show since lockdown at the Shangri La market in Observatory. He also has a weekly electronic (mostly techno) stream called the Boom Temple on Facebook live, Instagram and YouTube. He also continues to teach via Zoom and Skype.
